Back in Kingsand and we are now properly in Cornwall. The section of the Coast path from Kingsand and around Rame Head is a particularly spectacular one. Although it covers 6 miles of coast path the return leg across land is only 1.5 miles, making it perfect for a circular walk.
This is a Seven and a half mile walk. 6 miles following the coast path before heading across-land back to Kingsand (via a hamlet called ‘Wiggle’…honestly you can’t make this stuff up).
360 metres of ascent.
As always it’s very easy to navigate following the South West coast path and then at Wiggle Cliff car park follow the lane to Wiggle and then a footpath back over to Kingsand.
It took us 3 hours 38 minutes to walk but we had puppy-beach-running time at the start on Kingsand beach and at the end on the beach below Wiggle Cliff. Anyone who loves seeing dogs just having fun in the sand, join us for our walk:
What to see on a Rame Head circular
This is a great walk with plenty of interest:
Take a look in The Old Bakery in Cawsand for fabulous pastries (and lovely looking loaves too). Clark couldn’t resist trying a Cornish Pasty (He thinks it’s his personal mission to find the best Pasty, so tasting many is a necessity).
Queen Adelaide’s grotto at Penlee point, whose views through the arches are like a perfectly framed painting. The cave of the grotto was originally a watch house in the 18th century and then walls and arches were added and dedicated to Princess Adelaide after she visited in 1827.
Take the slight detour out to Rame Head to see the Chapel of St Michael’s and the fort .
Look out for free-roaming ponies on the cliffs on Ramehead common.
Lovely sand and rock beach below Wiggle cliff – perfect for a paddle.
…and finally, continuing our sightings of interesting memorial benches, we found this one. Does anyone recognize it?
Paolo Nutini’s ‘Someone like you’. I wonder who the bench was dedicated to. Such beautiful words and a beautiful song…enjoy:
